Sandhya and her husband, Biju, had briefly returned to their house to collect some important documents when a massive mound of mud and rocks crushed their home.

Tragically, Biju lost his life in the disaster. Sandhya was trapped under the debris for hours. By the time rescue workers pulled her out and rushed her to the hospital, the blood flow to her left leg had completely stopped due to severe crush injuries. To save her life from the spreading toxins, doctors had to amputate her left leg above the knee.

Adding to her deep sorrow, Sandhya had already lost her son to cancer just a year before this incident. Left alone with her daughter, a nursing student, Sandhya’s future looked entirely dark and hopeless.
